This wonderful item is a rare form and early example of Boston silver. Refined floral repousse and chased classical foliate ornamentation decorate the bulbous
body and domed lid. Complimenting the dynamic look are cast and applied loop handles with leaf and berry terminals and a blossoming acanthus flower finial.
Applied die rolled classical banding around the edge of the cover is curved to hang over the edge of the tureen. This leaf banding is also applied around the edge of
the stand which has a raised dome center to hold the tureen. Engraved on the foot of the tureen and center of the stand are the original script 'ACL' initails.
J.B. Jones was an early and fine Boston company and a predecessor to the venerable Shreve, Crump & Low.
This tureen is the finest quality Boston silver that we have seen from this period that did not come from the shop of Obadiah Rich and, in fact, it rivals the best pieces from Rich.
This outstanding sauce tureen with original stand is marked 'J.B. Jones./ Pure Coin'. It measures 6 inches high and the stand measures 7 inches round. They
have an combined weight of 37.35 troy ounces and are in excellent condition.
