English Regency Sterling Silver Mazarin, Paul Storr, London, 1817/18
English Regency Sterling Silver Mazarin, Paul Storr, London, 1817/18

This wonderful mazarin is elegantly hand pierced with classical decoration.  Featuring crosses and stars along with scrolling foliate design including anthemion leaves. This venison size mazarin is the largest size produced by Storr's shop and an outstanding example of his work - bold, classical and elegant.

Surviving mazarins by Storr are quite rare.  (Mazarins are liners for meat dishes to allow the juice to flow through to the platter.)  This one is engraved with an unidentified crest along the rim.

Paul Storr was the greatest silversmith of his era. As the principal silversmith of Rundell, Bridge & Rundell (who served as royal jewelers and silversmiths to their majesties George III, George IV and their extended families), Storr produced some of the most exciting, exquisite and expensive silver ever made.

This exceptional piece of Regency silver is fully marked on the back and bears the stamped model number 926.

It measures 18.5 inches long by 13 inches wide and fits Storr's largest size platter.  It weighs an impressive 64 troy ounces and is in excellent antique condition, retaining a possibly original surface with some scratches from use.  We purchased this privately with an associated fitting venison size meat platter (also by Storr), click here for more information on the platter.  The two have been together at least a couple generations.
