This is a wonderful example of Wood & Hughes’s aesthetic designs. The oval dish is raised and decorated with shimmering honeycomb hammering flaring out to an undulating feathered edge. This area is nicely gilded. The interior of the dish has a beautiful Japonesque acid-etched scene of large flowers, fruit and foliage.
This lovely sterling silver dish is stamped by the great New York silversmithing firm “W&H’ and ‘STERLING/ 226’. It measure 8.5 inches long by 5.5 deep by 1 inch high, weighs 5.15 troy ounces and is in excellent antique condition with practically imperceptible light wear to the gilding along the edge.
