English Sterling ‘Kings’ Pattern Flatware Service for 18, George Adams, London c. 1874/5, with Modern Knives
This outstanding, large service is in the classic king’s pattern featuring a bold shell at the top. A service for 18 such as this is quite hard to find. Each piece is crested with a smiling cow’s head on a coronet. This service consists of:
18 Dinner Forks (8.5” long); 18 Luncheon or Dessert Forks (7.125”); 24 Table Spoons (9’); 18 Dessert Spoons (7.25’); 18 Teaspoons (5.5”) (6 marked by William Chawner, London, 1820/1); 1 Platter or Stuffing Spoon (12”);
18 Dinner Knives - modern (10.25”); 18 Luncheon or Dessert Knives - modern (8.5”);
133 total pieces, weighing 234 troy ounces (excluding the knives). We are selling this service in one of our ‘Westchester’ mahogany silver chests (a $495.00 value).
Condition: two luncheon forks and one teaspoon are restored. Otherwise excellent, showing only minimal wear.
