Gorham Sterling Black Coffee Pot, c. 1888
Rare and beautiful. These side-handle black coffee pots are very scarce and this example is exquisite with its twisted reeding on the attached lid and around the bottom which
contrasts nicely with the plain upper-body and spout. This pot is in excellent condition and retains the original mahogany handle and reeded-carved finial.
Charles Carpenter in Gorham Silver illustrates an identical pot made in the same year (although different factory
number) in fig. 133. Using it as an example of early art nouveau silver, he discusses the use of new decoration on earlier forms. Good enough for the Gorham book, good enough for us!
It is monogrammed underneath in a script style 'JEBC', is marked by the Gorham trademark, 'sterling, the model number '3335' and the 1888 date mark. This pot measures
6.75 inches high and weighs 10.55 troy ounces
