A lovely example of work from Arthur Stone's shop, this bowl is taller in proportion to its width than most bowls from his shop. It has a hand drawn applied band around
the rim, a similar banded foot and features the wonderful soft planished surface typical of Stone's shop.
Stone ran one of the most important arts & crafts shops in the country. Items were hand made using traditional silversmithing techniques. An innovator, Stone let the
other masters who worked for him sign the items they made. This bowl was raised by an unidentified master whose work is rarely seen. For more information on
Stone see Arthur J. Stone, 1847-1938: Designer and Silversmith.
This bowl is marked underneath with the Stone trademark, 'STERLING', and the master mark of 'C' with a star underneath. It measures 6.625 inches in diameter, 4
inches high and weighs 13.85 troy ounces. It is in very good antique condition.
