Arthur Stone Sterling Silver Bowl, 1908-12
This sterling silver bowl was hand-raised by Herbert Taylor, one of the leading silversmiths at the Arthur Stone shop. His level of expertise is quite evident by the raised, lobed panels defined with vertical raised edges enhanced with Stone’s signature floral chased decoration. During this period, the chased decoration was done by the
master, Arthur Stone, himself. Double-line decoration is chased around the top under the rim connecting the design and accentuating the panels.
This wonderful sterling silver bowl is marked underneath with Stone’s impressed hammer mark along with ‘STERLING/ T’. This trademark was used from 1906-12. The ‘T’ denotes work by Herbert A. Taylor (one of only seven silversmiths who achieved the honor of ‘Medalist’ within the Society of Arts & Crafts) who worked for Stone in 1908 and later. The bowl measures 6 inches round by 3 inches high, weighs 10.90 troy ounces. It is in very good/ excellent antique condition with light surface scratching from use and has never been monogrammed.
