Gorham Aesthetic Movement Sterling Silver Cake Knife, c. 1870's

This beautiful cake knife is designed with a hollow handle and straight blade with a serrated top.  It has unusual bands of applied geometric, almost gothic, wirework.  The piece has an overall matte finish and is decorated with classically inspired bright-cut engraving on one side.

This stunning sterling silver cake knife is marked with Gorham's trademark underneath and 'STERLING'. It measures 9.75 inches long, weighs 2.0 troy ounces and is in very good antique condition.
