Black Starr and Frost Sterling Art Nouveau Sandwich or Cake Serving Plate, c. 1900-5

This beautiful serving dish features flowing hand chased poppies on a hammered Martelé style surface.  The sinuous, organic nature of this design is reinforced with an undulating rim. A drawn ring foot is applied underneath this bold handraised piece which was an exclusive design of Black, Starr & Frost.

Approximately 1.5 inches high and 11 inches in diameter, this wonderful serving plate weighs a hefty 28.75 troy ounces.  It is marked underneath ‘STERLING’, ‘EXCLUSIVE DESIGN’, ‘6561/11IN’ ‘BLACK, STARR & FROST/ NEW YORK’ and with Black, Starr and Frost’s eagle trademark. It is in excellent crisp condition (not worn like most Martelé) with the exception of some minor scratching in the center from use.
