Rare Fletcher & Gardiner Coin Silver Game Platter, Philadelphia, c. 1820.
Rare Fletcher & Gardiner Coin Silver Game Platter, Philadelphia, c. 1820.

Of oval form, this classical piece features a drawn and applied gadrooned border around the rim. Raised by hand, this platter has a relatively deep well, giving it a sense of presence.  Over the years it has been used and it retains its original used surface.

Fletcher and Gardiner were the preeminent American silversmiths of their day, the Paul Storr of the United States. The most important American presentation pieces were made in their shop and examples of their work can be found in every major museum collection of American Silver .

This wonderful platter measures 12.75 long, 10.125 inches wide and 1 inch deep; it weighs a hefty 28.15 troy ounces and is in very good antique condition (many scratches from use).  It has never been mongrammed.
