Pair of English Sterling Candlesticks with Antique Sheffield Plate Branches, Thomas & John Settle, Sheffield - 1821/22
This stunning pair of candelabra combine sterling candlesticks with wonderful antique Sheffield silver plate arms. Scrolling foliage and classical motifs decorate the circular bases, columns,
shoulders and socles. Engraved in the plain area of the columns are a family crest, a demi-lion rampant with a mullet wielding a battle-ax. Beautifully
complementing the sticks are the scrolling 3-socle branches with removable bobeches and original flame snuffer finials. This set can be used as 3- or 2-light candelabra or just as
candlesticks. The center of the branches also removes for use with a central lower candle (see below). Decorating the shoulders, wax pans and bobeches are
lovely foliate design strikingly similar to the candle sticks.
These wonderful candelabra are fully hallmarked around the base. The branches are unmarked as is the case with most antique Sheffield plate.
The sticks measure 12 inches high and with the branches are 20.75 inches high by 17 inches wide. They are in very good/ excellent antique condition with the weighted bases
having new felt underneath.
