American Coin Silver Basket Retailed by Allcock & Allen, New York City, c. 1850
This is a lovely coin silver oval basket decorated with robust foliate and floral engraving. Complimentary cast and applied scroll handles with shell centers are applied on the
ends of the bowl. The center is engraved with a crest of a walking lion carrying a flower over an engraved 'P' monogram.
This wonderful coin silver basket is marked underneath 'ALLCOCK & ALLEN/ 341 BROADWAY'. They were jewelers and retailers of silver working in the 1840's and
50's; we've had pieces with their mark made by John C. Moore although this basket bears no maker's mark. It measures 14.25 inches across the handles by 8.5 deep by 3
.25 inches high, weighs 23.95 troy ounces and is in good antique condition.
