Wood & Hughes ‘Angelo’ Sterling Flat Cake or Pastry Server, c. 1880

A lovely pattern developed in 1878 by New York maker Wood & Hughes, Angelo features very fine and detailed classical elements based on Italian renaissance designs. The pattern is complimented with fine, classical engraving on the flat gilded and matte-finished rectangular blade which curves up near the handle. The back of the handle has a lovely ‘LAD’ cursive monogram.

This rare server is stamped on the back with Wood & Hughes trademark along with ‘STERLING/ PAT 1878’. It measures 9.75 inches long, weighs 2.65 troy ounces and is in very good condition with a little, generally even, wear to the gilding.
