This is a stunning fruit set consisting of 6 forks and 6 knives dating from c. 1890. The cast sterling handles on all the pieces are hollow and the blades on the knives
and the tines on the forks are solid sterling. Fruit and flowers hang from a ribbon and bow at the top of the handles. At the base of the handle is classical acanthus
and anthemion leaf decoration.
The forks, with their shaped bowl and flaring tines, are marked on the back below the handle and the knives are marked on one side of the blades with Gorham's
trademark and 'STERLING/H75'. Flatware marked with the 'H' prefix to the pattern number were not made in a full production line. Such pieces are quite rare and here we have a whole set.
The forks measure 7 inches long and the knives measure 7.5 inches long. The combined weight is 16.75 troy ounces (fairly heavy) and the set is in very good condition.
