This outstanding example of Gorham's mastery of the craft of casting comes to us in the form of a bonbon dish. With bold cast and applied features, it displays confident early aesthetic movement design.
Of oval form, supported by four cast gryphon feet, the crenelated rim, reinforced with an applied band displays deep three dimensional casting of floral festoons and arrangements. (The primary focus being roses, dahlias and morning glories.)
This wonderful piece measures 9.5 inches long over the handles, 5.5 inches deep, 2.5 inches high and weighs 9.4 troy ounces. Monogrammed "MEC" in a beautiful foliate script, it is in very good antique (light unevenness in the bowl- visible below).
