Jones, Shreve, Brown & Co. Sterling Kidney-Shaped Flat Server, c. 1857-60
A very uncommon server in the late 1850's, this lovely piece was made in the simple 'oval thread' pattern popular at the time. The kidney-shaped flat blade is beautifully engraved
with rococo inspired scrollwork and foliage.
This lovely server is stamped on the back 'JONES, SHREVE, BROWN & Co/ STERLING'. Jones, Shreve, Brown & Co was in operation from 1857-1860 and went on to become
the venerable Boston jeweler, Shreve, Crump & Low. It measures 10.75 inches long, weighs 4.25 troy ounces, has never been monogrammed and is in excellent condition.
The presentaion box with this piece is lined with blue silk. The box itself is in good shape; however the outside covering is worn. Marked inside 'Shreve/ Crump & Low/
Boston', it dates to about 10 years after the server was made. Even though it fits perfectly, it is not original.
