With a boldly hammered body, this sauce boat was made by an important English art deco master. Featuring a double c-scroll handle (with a rattail and
rosette bosses) along with a thread (with tapered ends wound in circles) supporting the rim of the body, the sauce boat rests on a straight sided pedestal foot with
chased splayed lines for decoration. Strongly horizontal in design, this sauce boat is a wonderful example of 1930's design.
Cecil Walker was an important London silversmith (his shop was in Hampstead) at the height of his career in the mid 1930's. In 1935, he won the Goldsmiths
Company competition to create a masterpiece commemorating the 25th Anniversary Jubilee of George V's coronation - a centerpiece bowl still in the Company's collection.
This sauceboat is fully marked on the side and underneath is stamped 'Goldsmiths &/ Silversmiths Company/ 112 Regent Street. W.' It measures 6.5
inches long by 5.65 inches wide and 3.75 inches high, weighs 6.4 troy ounces, is not monogrammed and is in very good antique condition.
