This large soup ladle has a curved handle and elongated bowl decorated with classical hand-engraving. A beautifully cast and applied stag head adorns the handle. Above this ornament is a most unusual seven-panel device with fine engraving.
The back of this wonderful ladle is stamped ’COIN’ and with a star symbol which closely resembles the one used by Knowles from Providence, RI (see Manufacturers’ Marks on American Coin Silver by John McGrew p. 133). The ladle measures 14 inches long, weighs 5.45 troy ounces, has never been monogrammed and is in very good/excellent antique condition.
