Pair of Georg Jensen Sterling Silver 2-light Art-deco Candelabra, 1945-1977, designed by Harald Nielsen c. 1930

Pair of Georg Jensen Sterling Silver 2-light Art-deco Candelabra, 1945-1977, designed by Harald Nielsen

These rare candelabra are exquisite.  Not only are they beautifully proportioned, they are a sophisticatedArm detail of the Pair of Georg Jensen Sterling Silver 2-light Art-deco Candelabra, 1945-1977, designed by Harald Nielsen design executed with the high quality for which Jensen silver is renowned.  Various planes and graceful curves portray wonderful movement.  Curved wing-like arms, lightly hammered on top to give them a shimmering surface, support conical socles.  Joining the arms are dramatic ring handles with  smaller rings inside resting on square diamond platforms.  The circular stepped pedestal base also plays with varying depths and widths for an intriguing, bold art-deco display.

This particular model bears the same number (630) as the more common Pyramid design and may also have been meant to complement that pattern.  The only differences between the two candelabra models are the central decoration and that these are larger.  Both models are pictured from original catalogs in Georg Jensen 20th Century Designs by Janet Drucker (plate 74).
Single Georg Jensen Sterling Silver 2-light Art-deco Candelabra, post 1945

This stunning pair is marked underneath ‘GEORG JENSEN’ inside a beaded oval along with ‘DENMARK/ STERLING/ 630B/ DESSIN HN’.  The ‘HN’ signifies these candelabra being designed by Jensen’s chief designer, Harald Nielsen who favored form over decoration.  While this design dates to c. 1930, these bear a Jensen mark used from 1945-1977.  Judging the patina and quality, we believe they date to the earlier part of this period.  They measure 7.5 inches long by 6.25 inches high, have a combined weight of 35.65 troy ounces and are in excellent condition.
