Top detail of French Silver Coffee Pot by Jean-Ange Josephe Loque, Paris - 1788
The dramatic features include a side-handle consisting of an original turned wood handle which screws into the cast and applied silver section.  Adding to the elegance and charm are a beautiful spout with curved top and fluted neck above a teardrop and aF816 foot detail flat domed lid with a cast finial, hinge and thumb-piece. Three slender C-scroll legs with pad feet connect to the body with below oval cartouches at the knee.  The plain and shiny surface has a lovely reflective quality.

Loque was an important Parisian goldsmith specializing in ecclesiastical silver which he fashioned for many of France’s finest churches and cathedrals during the Empire period.  His creations range from processional crosses to monstrances and ciboriums that can be found in churches and cathedrals from Calais to Aquitaine and from Brittany through the Loire Valley.  His masterpieces include a chalice in the treasury of Notre-Dame in Paris and the monstrance and classical display surround at the Cathedral of saint Maurice in Angers.  Detail of marks on French Silver Coffee Pot by Jean-Ange Josephe Loque, Paris - 1788

This coffee pot is a very rare extant example of his domestic silver and the largest example of this form we have ever seen in 18th century French silver.

This wonderful coffee pot is marked underneath the main body and also the lid.  It measures 12.5 inches high by 12 inches across the handle.  It weighs an impressive 45 troy ounces and is in very good antique condition.
