George Shiebler ‘Homeric’ Medallion Sterling Silver Perfume or Scent Bottle, c. 1880’s.
This is a very unusual form in the rare ‘Homeric’ line of holloware and flatware by George Shiebler from New York.
Various aesthetic movement ornamental elements are chased on a hammered background, focusing the eye on five different medallions.
Even the removable top has a medallion. There are some Greek-like engraved letters similar to ‘Seviov’.
This wonderful bottle is marked underneath with Shiebler’s trademark ‘S’ with wings and ‘STERLING/ 979’. It measures 5.5 inches high, weighs 5.55 troy ounces and is in excellent antique condition.
