Gorham 'Grecian' Sterling Ice Cream or Pudding Server, c. 1870
One of Gorham's three 1861 patterns, 'Grecian' features a large acanthus bud at with leaves and scrolls on the side at the top of the handle. The flattened classical top, along with the round stem handle and shaped blade, make this server truly elegant.
In the 1860's, Gorham made both an 'Ice Cream Knife' and a 'Pudding Knife'. To the best of our knowledge, no one knows conclusively which piece this one this is but it is most likely for ice cream.
This lovely server, is stamped with Gorham's trademark, 'PATENT 1861/ STERLING/ HARRIS BROS'. It measures 9.5 inches long, weighs 2.65 troy ounces, has never been monogrammed and is in
very good condition.
