This very rare pattern is designed with two kissing lovebirds (turtle doves) with outstretched wings perched on a berry above an oval cartouche containing
an engraved 'A.S.' monogram. Crossing ribbons hang down from the oval.  This extremely rare pattern was only made in servers.
In the 1860's, Gorham made both an 'Ice Cream Knife' and a 'Pudding Knife'. To the best of our knowledge, no one knows conclusively which piece this one this is but it is most likely for ice cream.
This lovely server is stamped with Gorham's trademark, 'STERLING/ PATENT 1868/' and by the great Boston retailer 'Shreve Stanwood & Co'. Shreve, Stanwood & Co are listed as being in operation in
Boston from 1860-1869 and then became the venerable Shreve, Crump & Low. This server measures 10 inches long, weighs 2.50 troy ounces and is in excellent condition.
