These elegant sterling goblets are a beautiful shape and size. The conical cup is totally unadorned except for a lovely engraved crest of a boar's head. The slender
stem flares out at the base and is decorated with wire banding on a hexagonal foot.
Naphtali Hart is regarded as a highly skilled regency silversmith. While there is no record of his apprenticeship, his first mark was registered in 1791 in partnership with Duncan Urquhart and his first
solo mark was registered in 1812. Hart and Urquhart were rare examples of Jewish silversmiths working in Georgian London; their work, created both in partnership and separately, is actively
sought by collectors today. Naphtali Hart served as treasurer of the Hambro Synagogue in 1807 and 1808 and was later a member of the Western Synagogue. (See Arthur Grimwade, London Goldsmiths 1697-1837:
Their Marks and Lives.)
These rare goblets are fully hallmarked on the base. They measures 6.5 inches high and weigh a combined 13.55 troy ounces. They are in very good/excellent
condition with a light original gold wash to the interior of the cups.
