This very fine wine coaster was designed in the neo-classical style made popular in the late 18th century by Robert Adam. Of elegant proportions and fine detail, it features a gallery of piercing and bright cut work in a design of ovals and bell flowers. The rim is a drawn and applied band of reeding, popular in the mid 1790's. Peter and Ann are son and daughter-in-law of famous silversmith Hester Bateman, and ran the family firm after her retirement in 1790. All Bateman silver is highly collectable, and this is a rare and fine piece. It would add a touch of elegance to any table (or bottle of wine).
The coaster is fully marked around the base of the rim. It measures 5 inches in diameter, 1.5 inches high, is in very good condition and has never been monogrammed.
