Gorham Sterling Silver Antique Presentation Water Pitcher, 1904

A wonderful example of art nouveau sterlingE053 handle silver, this rare and large water pitcher has beautiful proportions and graceful lines.  Stunning repousséd chrysanthemum flowers and foliage along with chased detailing boldly decorate the body.  The cast and applied handle is also decorated with leaves, a floral thumb-piece and terminates at the body with foliate designs.  On one side of the pitcher is the following engraved presentation:

James E. Howell was a New Jersey lawyer who became Chancellor of that state in 1907.

This rare pitcher is marked underneath with Gorham's trademark and 'STERLING' along with the 1904 date mark, model code A4182'  and '6.1/4 PINT'.  It measures 9.5 inches high by 10 inches across handle and spout, weighs 40.45 troy ounces and is in excellent antique condition.
