Dominick and Haff Sterling Slice

An exceptional piece of American aesthetic movement silver!! This wonderful hammered piece of silver dates to the early 1880's and is hand chased with wonderful Japanese motifs.  The only other Dominick & Haff hammered silver with similar decoration we have had was a tea caddy given by President Chester Arthur to a prominent senator's daughter as a wedding gift (it is pictured on the Meet Spencer Marks page).  The handle is decorated with a dragonfly, bamboo leaves and branches.  The shaped blade has a crane standing in a stream with a rock and water plants around it. This piece is in excellent condition, measures 12" long and has incredible weight (approximately 10 troy ounces).  It is monogrammed on the handle "LCW" in a style similar to oriental calligraphy. Simply the nicest slice we've ever had the pleasure of selling.
