This wonderful caster is made from heavy gage silver and would have been used for powdered sugar for desserts or other sweets.
The domed, detachable cover has various pierce-work of teardrops, circles and quatrefoils. The applied twisted flame finial works nicely with the design of the body which has twisting
fluting to the upper half and twisting reeding to the lower half. A lovely crest of a bird (a dove?) clutching a branch in its beak is engraved in the reserve.
This beautiful caster is marked underneath and on the cover with William Wilson's trademark and 'STERLING'. It measures 7.5 inches high, weighs 6.5 troy ounces and is in excellent condition.
