These small sterling silver bowls were hand-raised by Clinton B. Ogilvie and are very early examples from the famous Gardner, Massachusetts shop. They are of
typical bowl form with flaring rims with rolled edges attached to pedestal bases. The surface shines with subtle hammering and is engraved 1911.
We have never seen, in person, an example of Stone's silver with the Ogilvie mark which leads us to believe these bowls are quite rare. Ogilvie is listed as a
holloware specialist with working dates from 1907-1913 and also as having achieved 'Craftsman' status at the Society of Arts & Crafts, Boston (Arthur J. Stone 1847-1938 Designer and Silversmith by Elenita Chickering, pp
180-181).
These lovely sterling silver bowls are marked underneath with Stone's impressed hammer mark along with 'STERLING/ O'. They are identical and measure just
over 4 inches wide by 2.75 inches high, weigh 4.70 troy ounces each and are in very good antique condition.
