Tiffany & Co. 'Olympian' Pattern Sterling Silver Soup Ladle, 1878-91
Patented in 1878, the 'Olympian' pattern is one of the greatest cast patterns, almost certainly designed by Antoine Heller while at Tiffany.
A multi-motif pattern, servers and place pieces in this pattern depict scenes from various Greek myths. This large soup ladle depicts the scene of Jupiter with an eagle. The back of the handle is
engraved 'Helen' above a depiction of Cupid holding his bow and arrows.
The back is stamped 'TIFFANY & Co./STERLING/PAT1878/M'. The 'M' was used until 1891 so we can date this piece from 1878-91. This rare ladle measures 13 inches
long, weighs 9.65 troy ounces and is in excellent condition.
