Durgin After-Dinner Sterling Silver Coffee Pot, c. 1900
William Durgin and his firm, from Concord, New Hampshire, made some wonderful silver and this coffee pot is no exception. Dramatic shapes and decoration create a sense of
movement throughout making this piece a work of art. The Turkish inspired body has swirling panels with elaborately repoussed scrolls with floral and foliate decoration.
The slender neck and hinged lid repeat the scroll motif along with hand- chased foliate decoration. An s-scroll handle has an unusual bottom section resembling sprawling vine
tendrils while the upper portion is chased once again with foliate decoration as is the base of the spout. An 'HD' monogram is engraved on the handle.
This exotic sterling silver coffee pot is marked underneath with Durgin's trademark, 'STERLING/ 135'. It measures 10.5 inches high, weighs 19.40 troy ounces and is in very
good antique condition.
