William Forbes Coin Silver Sauce Boat, New York, c. 1855
This wonderful sauce boat is of typical form and beautifully ornamented. The helmet-shaped body with elongated pouring spout exhibits exceptional hand-engraved rococo
foliate design. There is a reserve on both sides, one of which has never been monogrammed and the other which bears the initials 'A.M.D.' in an old English style. A cast S-scroll
handle with leaf decoration and a die-rolled leaf border around the stepped pedestal base complete the design.
This stunning gravy boat is stamped underneath with William Forbes makers marks and by the great New York retailers 'BALL, BLACK & Co/ SUCCESSORS TO
MARQUAND & Co'. It measures 6 inches high by 8.25 across the handle to the spout, weighs 11.85 troy ounces and is in very good/ excellent antique condition.
