Chinese Export Silver Snuff Box, Khecheong, Canton, 2nd quarter 19th century.

This wonderful Chinese export snuff box is in the British style, an indication of its early age. Khecheong ran an important shop in Canton selling wonderful China trade silver.  Of rounded rectangular form and concave sides, this box is decorated with wheel turned engraving with a rectangular cartouche for a monogram.

Interestingly, this box is also marked with an ideogram of the actual maker. In this case it is a mark for 'Quan,' a specialist box maker who also sold his boxes through other retail outlets including the shop that used the 'Gothic K' mark.

Measuring 1.75 inches long, 1.125 inches deep and .625 inches high, it is in very good condition, retaining the original gilt interior,  although a monogram may have been removed from the cartouche.
