This lovely centerpiece is entirely hand raised. It features 10 lobes and has a drawn reeded border applied to the rim and rests on a spreading stepped foot. It’s elegant lines and large size give it a strong presence.
Arthur Stone was the undisputed master silversmith of the Boston arts and crafts movement. His shop produced some of the finest silver ever made, and many of the journeymen who worked for him were masters in their own right. Unlike other shops, Stone allowed his journeymen to mark their work. In this case, Herbert Taylor (Boston Society of Arts & Crafts ‘Medalist Craftsman’, the highest honor bestowed by the Society) raised this piece.
This is one of the largest pieces from his shop that we have seen or had the pleasure to sell; it took a significant amount of work to raise this piece. Arthur Stone enforced rigorous quality control and every piece we have had from his shop is uniformly excellent in both execution and feel. This is no exception, it simply feels wonderful to hold and use.
This outstanding piece measures 14.625 inches in diameter and weighs 54.75 troy ounces. It is marked with Stone’s shop mark and Herbert Taylor’s ‘T’ makers mark. It has never been monogrammed or inscribed and is in excellent condition.
