This is an uncommon brooch made by Stavre Gregor Panis. The pierced and engraved design of the slightly domed brooch displays a wonderful figure of a seahorse and a plant within a rope edge.

Provenance:

This piece comes from the collection of a marine biologist and his wife who summered on the Cape while he worked at The Woods Hole Oceanographic Institute. Most of the collection was purchased in the 1950s. They have descended in the family.

This wonderful brooch is stamped 'SGP' within a triangle and 'STERLING.' It measures 1.6 inches in diameter, weighs 8 grams and is in very good condition.
