Shiebler Antique Sterling Silver Aesthetic Movement Gravy Boat, NYC, NY, c. 1880s

This magnificent gravy boat is a rare example of aesthetic movement silver. Emanating from a loop tendril handle are overlapping leaves with defined veining, which resemble a waterlily. Underneath the spout is an applied beetle. The undulating surface and ruffled rim, along with the overall design, create a wonderful, naturalistic and fun object.

This rare gravy boat is marked underneath with Shiebler's trademark and 'STERLING/ 359.' It measures 6 inches across the handle and spout by 2.5 inches high, weighs 6.60 troy ounces, has never been monogrammed, and is in excellent antique condition and shows scale.
