Gorham Antique Coin Silver 'Sphinx' Pattern Serving Fork, Providence, RI, c. 1867

This rare serving fork features a wonderful cast gilt Egyptian bust with an ibis bird. The great construction of the handle consists of three rods attached to the upper castings and circular rings near its base, which flares outwards with four silver rods terminating at the bowl with wonderful leaves. A dramatic, pierced bowl with pointed tines is engraved with swirling foliage. Underneath the bowl is engraved the name 'Darragh.'

This impressive server is marked with Gorham's trademark and STERLING.' It measures 10 inches long, weighs 3.90 troy ounces, and is in excellent antique condition with light wear to the gilding.
