Gorham's nautically designed objects, inspired by the nearby Narraganset Bay, are wonderful and rare designs. This small dish is in the form of a clam shell with beautiful details. The interior is lightly gilt, displaying a striated surface with a scalloped edge. The underside repeats the wonderful striations along with areas of applied sand. Two applied shell feet act to balance the oyster dish.

This rare olive dish is marked with Gorham's trademark, 'STERLING', and the date mark for 1887. It measures 4.5 inches long by 4 inches wide, weighs 1.80 troy ounces and is in excellent condition.
