JE Caldwell & Co. Antique Coin Silver Ice Tongs, Philadelphia, PA, c. 1865

Notify me when similar is available:

Early ice tongs are quite uncommon, and this form is very rare. Twist handles extend from the elbow, exhibiting stunning floral engraving to the sides of the engraved 'MAB' monogram.

One of the ends is a bird's claw with lovely details on both sides. Opposite this claw is a shallow bowl with six small, round piercings. Outside is executed as an impressive leaf over a slightly scalloped shell, and the interior has beautiful bright-cut engraving.

This magnificent server is marked by the famous Philadelphia retailer 'JE Caldwell & Co.' The tongs measure 8.25 inches long, weigh 3.15 troy ounces, and are in excellent antique condition.
