William Cafe Set of 4 George II Sterling Silver Candlesticks, London 1762/63

These lovely 18th century candlesticks are beautifully cast and of great quality. Made from multiple parts, the sticks are decorated with scrolling leaves at the corners, as are the corners of the shaped bases and bobeches. The concave shaped socles which hold the removable bobeche have applied rope banding. The shaped main stems are complex castings of octagonal form with four of the sides being deep flutes. Spherical discs also compose the multi faceted stems and are bordered with outer edges complimenting the rope design on the socles. The bases are cast with beautifully proportioned lines, a stepped platform and bold foliate corners. Each are engraved around their edge with a script style engraved 'JD' monogram.

William Cafe, like his older brother John, was a specialist candlestick maker. These candlesticks incorporate great design and classic ornamentation.

All of the candlesticks are fully hallmarked underneath. All four socles are hallmarked with the makers mark and the lion passant and one socle doesn't appear to have been struck with the maker's mark. The removable bobeche are all marked with the lion passant and the maker's mark.

These lovely candlesticks measure 9.75 inches tall, weigh a combined 74.35 troy ounces and are in very good/ excellent antique condition.
