This is a rare form in silver flatware. It is a marrow spoon with one end shaped as a marrow scoop. Marrow was (is) considered a delicacy and these instruments were invented to core the marrow from bones during a meal. Usually marrow scoops are constructed with two different sized scoops on each end to assist with various sized bones. Marrow spoons are considerably rarer, typically earlier, and this is a wonderful Example. The drop on the back of the bowl is decorated with a wonderful and rare shell design.
This rare utensil is fully hallmarked on the back. It measures 8.5 inches long, weighs 2.0 troy ounces and is in excellent antique condition.
